Taking your child to the dentist can be tough. Working around their school schedule and your work schedule is often challenging, not to mention many kids suffer from dental anxiety and hate having their teeth cleaned.
For your convenience, our practice allows you to take care of all your family’s dental needs under one roof. This means no more juggling appointments between different dentists and locations.
Dr. Ruehle and Dr. Eide both have plenty of experience treating young patients, so they know exactly how to keep your child at ease. In many cases, we can even eliminate their fear of dental appointments and help them see it as a rewarding experience.
Just like with adults, your child should come in for a cleaning and exam at least twice a year. During these visits, we’ll thoroughly clean and polish their teeth, removing plaque and tartar to prevent cavities and gum disease. We’ll also monitor the development of their teeth as they come in, keeping an eye out for any potential issues such as impacted wisdom teeth.
One of the most important parts of caring for our young patients is educating them about proper oral hygiene. We’ll make sure they understand the importance of keeping their teeth healthy with daily brushing and flossing. If they’re still too young to brush and floss alone, we’ll encourage you to do it with them and turn oral care into a fun family activity.
Our children’s area features toys, books, mazes, and other entertainment that will keep your child occupied while they wait. We’ll even reward them with a prize to take home for following instructions and behaving well during their appointment.
We’re proud to feature the Waterlase Iplus® dental laser at our practice. This advanced technology gives our dentists the ability to treat cavities without the need for shots or drilling. As a result, your child can enjoy a pain-free experience and maximum comfort in the dental chair.
The laser is so precise and accurate that it can target decay and infection without damaging any healthy tissue. It’ll numb and fill your child’s tooth without them feeling a thing, and no novocaine or anesthesia is necessary. By providing your child with a pain-free experience, we’ll help to reduce their anxiety for any necessary dental treatments in the future.
Laser dental treatment offers several benefits to our young patients, including:
If the membrane under a baby’s lip or tongue (the labial and lingual frenulums, respectively) is too tight and restricts movement, they have what is called a lip or tongue tie. If correction is required, our doctors can use the state-of-the-art Waterlase Iplus laser to improve tongue or lip mobility in a procedure called an infant frenectomy.
Many infants have this defect to some degree, however, in some cases it affects the baby’s ability to breastfeed effectively or breathe easily. If this is the case, you may notice your infant coughing or gagging, having trouble with gas, blistering around the lips, or snoring during sleep.
Performing an infant frenectomy with the Waterlase Iplus laser is a quick and safe procedure performed same-day and in-office. Your infant will feel minimal discomfort and experience only mild swelling during and after the procedure. We’ll provide post-operative instructions personalized to you and your baby’s specific situation.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that every child get a dental checkup when their first tooth erupts, or no later than their first birthday. Caring for your child early and monitoring the development of their teeth will help them maintain a healthy smile well into adulthood.
At Garden Oaks Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer several treatments that can benefit your child’s oral health. These include:
We understand that many children fear visiting the dentist. That’s why we do everything we can to help them feel comfortable in our office. It helps that our practice is a former residence with wood beams and a fireplace, so it feels much more like home than a typical dental office. We also feature toys, books, and other entertainment in our waiting area to keep them engaged.
Dr. Ruehle and Dr. Eide are both highly experienced family dentists who know how to relate to young patients. Their friendly personalities and relaxed demeanors will help your child feel at ease and show them that visiting the dentist doesn’t have to be an unpleasant experience. Best of all, we use the Waterlase Iplus dental laser to perform pain-free procedures with no drilling, shots, or bleeding.
